Hello!
Assistant Dune
Assistant Gilly
Shivelight Counseling offers virtual therapy across Colorado.
Inspired to hold every person capable, Ej Horrocks achieved a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling specializing in Addiction Counseling from Appalachian State University. To complement her academic accomplishments, Ej has provided services in community mental health, residential treatment centers, in-home behavioral tutoring, wilderness family therapy, and private practice.
After moving to Durango in 2017, Ej now lives with her pups Dune and Gilly who often join her playing in the mountains, rivers, woods, and deserts of the Southwest. They love ice-cream, rollerblading, and romping in the Weminuche mountains - they may also make celebrity appearances in session! While her path to Shivelight has been winding, the common thread is a desire to be in relationship with people. As a wilderness guide and thru-hiker of the Appalachian Trail, she will always be a nature-based practitioner, weaving this part of her life-experience into her work in meaningful ways.

Philosophy
In a physically and emotionally safe space, one can engage in the healing work of self-reflection. When we move beyond just positive thinking and affirmation, we can turn towards and begin to understand our personal limitations, biases, blind spots, and false beliefs about ourselves.
There is power in the therapeutic relationship.
This relationship, paired with my eclectic, systemic, trauma informed approach, gets to the root of what is needed to embrace and maintain change. The best work is done when we individualize your goals and develop a plan that you are in alignment with.
